The Windows registry on the machine where the web server is located must be updated with an entry as follows:

Please back up the registry before proceeding because incorrectly modifying the registry may prevent your system from booting. Instructions about backing up and restoring Windows registry can be found here

Prerequisites to be installed

  • For ED 7.1601.0.0 and above: Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable (Download and install the file named AccessDatabaseEngine_x64.exe). This is not required if Microsoft Office 2010 (64-bit) or above is already installed.

If you have the 32-bit version of Microsoft Office installed, then you must install the 64-bit Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable and while doing so, you will get the following error message.

In order to resolve this issue, open an Administrator command prompt (click the Start button, type "command" in the search box, right click Command Prompt in the search results that appear, and click Run as administrator from the context menu), navigate to the folder in which AccessDatabaseEngine_x64.exe has been downloaded, and run the following command:

    AccessDatabaseEngine_X64.exe /passive

This should now install successfully. You must reboot the server for the changes to take effect.

Enable TLS 1.2

ExamDeveloper uses TLS 1.2 to secure communication between its components. In order to use TLS 1.2, you must enable it in the registry as detailed here.

  1. Open the Windows Registry Editor by running the Regedit.exe application.
  2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols.
  3. If the keys Client and Server exist under Protocols, and if each of them they contains the DWORD DisabledByDefault, ensure that the value of this DWORD is set to 0x00000000 (0) and you can stop here. If the keys do not exist, then proceed to the next steps.
  4. Right-click the Protocols key in the left pane, mouse over to New, and click Key.
  5. Name the new key that is created as "TLS 1.2".
  6. Right-click the TLS 1.2 key in the left pane, mouse over to New, and click Key.
  7. Name the new key that is created as "Client".
  8. Right-click in the right pane, mouse over New, and click DWORD (32-bit) Value.
  9. Name the new key that is created as "DisabledByDefault" and let its value remain at the default 0x00000000 (0).
  10. Create a new key "Server" under TLS 1.2 as in steps 6 and 7, and create a DWORD (32-bit) Value "DisabledByDefault" in it as in steps 8 and 9.

For ExamDeveloper version 7.1601.0.0 and above:
